Trade Forex using MMT
A lot has been written on Modern Monetary Theory or, as it is often referred to, MMT. This economic school of thought got started in the mid-1990s. It was an outgrowth of Chartalism and the work of hedge fund analyst, Warren Mosler and economic researcher, Randall Wray.
A lot has been written on Modern Monetary Theory and you can access those articles and resources on the web, however, what I am going to talk about is how we use MMT in our trading.
MMT is the true understanding of our monetary system
Since MMT defines a concise understanding of floating exchange rate and non-convertible currency systems like that which most of the world operates with today, it gives us better insight into market moves and the effects of policy.
The great thing about using MMT is that most of mainstream economics, nearly all of it actually, still looks at fiscal and monetary policy as if we were still on a gold standard or fixed exchange rates Alan Greenspan, when once asked by Congressman Ron Paul if we were better off on a gold standard replied, "No, but we still act as if we are."
This mentality of viewing fiscal and monetary policy as though we were still on a gold standard or fixed exchange rate system has been the cause of big losses by Forex traders, bond traders, gold investors and other investors in financial instruments and certain commodities over the past seven years.
When the Fed started to engage in extraordinary measures following the financial crash there were widespread predictions that the dollar and U.S. Treasuries would collapse, interest rates would spike and gold would shine. Indeed, the opposite came true. Same was true when Standard & Poor's downgraded the U.S. credit rating. Rather than skyrocket, rates actually fell sharply.
Forex traders who understood MMT were not confused or tripped up by these events. They made a fortune.
